The Type XXIII U-boats were designed to operate in the shallows of the North Sea, Black Sea and Mediterranean Sea, where larger Type XXI U-boats were at risk in World War II. They were so small they could carry only two torpedoes. They were able to remain submerged almost all of the time and were faster than all previous designs worldwide, due to the improved streamlining of their shape over the type XXI. The Type XXIII was a late war development launched in April, 1944. Only three survived WWII, with all others being sunk or scuttled as the war drew near its close. Kit consists of 32 parts on 3 sprues.
