The Fw 190, nicknamed Würger (Shrike or butcherbird), was a high-performance, heavily armed fighter designed by Kurt Tank to meet the specifications issued by the RLM in 1938. Its first flight in 1939 marked the beginning of numerous refinements, leading to its entry into Luftwaffe service in 1941. Early models, such as the Fw 190A-1, proved superior to Allied aircraft, and the design evolved quickly. By 1942, mass production was well underway, including improved variants like the A-5, featured in this model kit.

The A-5 introduced notable advancements, including the more powerful BMW 801D-2 engine, delivering 1,677 hp (1,250 kW). To optimize balance, the engine was repositioned forward by 15 cm (5.9 in), allowing increased weight to be carried at the rear. This adjustment enhanced its versatility and laid a solid foundation for further developments in the series. Subsequent variants such as the A-8, incorporated additional armor and heavier armament, and nitrous oxide injection systems for temporary power boosts during combat.

While produced in smaller numbers compared to the Bf 109, the Fw 190’s heavy firepower made it a key element of Germany’s air defense during the second half of the war. Its effectiveness against the Allied bombing campaigns solidified its reputation, leaving a lasting legacy in aviation history. The A-5 variant with its enhanced capabilities, remains a remarkable example of the series’ innovation and adaptability.

This kit is more than just a replica. Whether you're a passionate modeler or a dedicated collector, this kit offers a unique opportunity to build a piece of aviation history. Bring the aircraft flown by the Luftwaffe’s most successful Experten to life with this exceptional kit, a must have for any World War II military aviation collection.
